Violence in Rio

Under heavy gunfire police smash their way into shanty town to take on drug traffickers

Amid heavy gunfire hundreds of police and soldiers have started invading a shantytown complex long held by drug traffickers.

Black-clad police officers from elite units began entering the Alemao slum complex today, with TV images showing police helicopters flying low to support the men on the ground as hundreds of drug gang members tried to hold their position.

The face-off comes after a week of widespread violence in Rio, with more than 100 cars and buses set on fire and at least 35 deaths, mostly of suspected traffickers.

What do you think should be done now?

Song: Another Brick In The Wall

Another Brick In The Wall
Pink Floyd

Daddy's flown across the ocean
Leaving just a memory
Snapshot in the family album
Daddy what else did you leave for me?
Daddy, what'd'ja leave behind for me?!?
All in all it was just a brick in the wall.
All in all it was all just bricks in the wall.

"You! Yes, you behind the bikesheds, stand still
lady!"

When we grew up and went to school
There were certain teachers who would
Hurt the children in any way they could
(oof!)
By pouring their derision
Upon anything we did
And exposing every weakness
However carefully hidden by the kids
But in the town it was well known
When they got home at night, their fat and
Psychopathic wives would thrash them
Within inches of their lives.

We don't need no education
We dont need no thought control
No dark sarcasm in the classroom
Teachers leave them kids alone
Hey! Teachers! Leave them kids alone!
All in all it's just another brick in the wall.
All in all you're just another brick in the wall.

We don't need no education
We don't need no thought control
No dark sarcasm in the classroom
Teachers leave us kids alone
Hey! Teachers! Leave us kids alone!
All in all it's just another brick in the wall.
All in all you're just another brick in the wall.

"Wrong, Guess again! 2x
If you don't eat yer meat, you can't have any pudding.
How can you have any pudding if you don't eat yer meat?
You! Yes, you behind the bikesheds, stand still laddie!"

I don't need no arms around me
And I don't need no drugs to calm me
I have seen the writing on the wall
Don't think I need anything at all

No! Don't think I'll need anything at all
All in all it was all just bricks in the wall.
All in all you were all just bricks in the wall

Fragile, by Sting (Deni's suggestion)

Hello, Angela!

In our last class we talked about Fragile, by Sting. So I would like to share the lyrics with you and our classmates. I don't know if I can put this song on the blog or only you are permitted to insert subjets on the blog.

So, find the beautiful lyrics:

FRAGILE

If blood will flow when flesh and steel are one
Drying in the colour of the evening sun
Tomorrow's rain will wash the stains away
But something in our minds will always stay

Perhaps this final act was meant
To clinch a lifetime's argument
That nothing comes from violence
and nothing ever could
For all those born beneath an angry star
Lest we forget how fragile we are

On and on the rain will fall
Like tears from a star
Like tears from a star
On and on the rain will say
How fragile we are
How fragile we are

On and on the rain will fall
Like tears from a star
Like tears from a star
On and on the rain will say
How fragile we are
How fragile we are
How fragile we are
How fragile we are

In this site we can find this lyric, the translation and the video clip:

Graffiti

Is graffiti a form of art or just vandalism?
What's your opinion?
